It happened in Naples
The years between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries, the city is Naples. A fortunate interweaving of cultural fabric and artistic personalities leads to the birth of a new repertoire: song in the Neapolitan language. Although not a direct descendant of opera, the song is characterised by its melodic passion, but also by the key role of the performer, who is called upon each time to make the poet's verses his own, giving them new life. Eduardo De Crescenzo has chosen to dedicate himself to it as a tribute to his masters: having grown up amid jazz and songwriting, it is his "voice" that is capable of impersonating a poetic, cultured Naples, imbued with sentiment yet far removed from any folklorism. Mazzariello's piano dialogues with his accordion to rediscover the spirit of the classic Neapolitan song in all its unsurpassed modernity.
