Saint Laurence's Day
This commemoration is linked with the old popular celebrations held in the city.
An old poster from 1888 invited people to the 'traditional' Saint Laurence celebrations with bingo, fireworks, air balloons and dancing.
On August 10, by tradition, farmers used to go to the beach carrying the whole family in their wagons. They used tents as a shelter from the sun and spent there the whole day.
It's a 19-century holiday and at that time people believed in the therapeutic effects of bathing in the sea. They even washed their cattle in the sea.
