Between Salt and Archaeology in Summer

The guided tour in the Salt Museum of Cervia is included in the entrance ticket

Visite guidate a Musa

Guided tour at Musa, Cervia's salt museum, to discover the salt civilisation, the magical environment of the saltworks and the history of Cervia in the company of an expert salt miner.

Archaeologist Giovanna Montevecchi will illustrate the archaeological section.

Welcoming visitors and leading them through the history of salt and the city will be the salt workers of the Civiltà Salinara cultural group.
They will be joined by Dr Giovanna Montevecchi, a historian and archaeologist who is a friend of the museum, who will enrich the visit by illustrating the archaeological section of the museum, opened in 2012, which contains the treasures of the salt city's past.
She will review the artefacts found in the area that are now on display at MUSA. These range from the remains of an early medieval ship found in Savio in 1956 to the fragment of a funerary monument with the head of a jellyfish found in the mid-1950s in the Montaletto area and handed over to MUSA by the children of the "Buonarroti" primary school after careful restoration by the Superintendency.
Also on display at the museum are the pilgrim ampoules found around the Pieve di Pisignano and the skilful compositions of coloured marble from the mosaic carpets of the church of San Martino prope litus maris found in 1989 in the area of the salt pans.
To complete the explanatory picture of local history, ceramic and glass materials from old Cervia are also displayed in the showcases.
The guided tour accompanies visitors on a journey through time, in the company of experts, in search of the origins of the city of Cervia, its development as a city of salt, its transfer to the sea, the vicissitudes dictated by the wealth that salt represented for centuries in the city and its evolution as a tourist destination. The visit is free and reservations are not necessary.
