The Art of Foundations

The Art of Foundations

Five different Foundations showcase a selection of their artworks

The Art of Foundations

curated by Claudio Spadoni, promoted by the Ravenna CNA

from 18th July to 17th August 2025

Cervia, Magazzini del Sale Torre

The exhibition is the third in a cycle aimed at illustrating the choices, endowments, and orientations of private realities and individual collectors, with a specific interest in art from the second half of the 19th century to the present day and with particular reference to Emilia-Romagna.

The project of this exhibition aims to document different types of Foundations.

These are Banking Foundations, which in some cases have endowed themselves with conspicuous art collections through their own, far-sighted policy of acquisitions, and private Foundations of quite different physiognomies, which in turn are repositories of artistic heritage, often due to bequests. Different histories and realities, but in any case structures that are also promoters of exhibition activities and cultural initiatives, whose role has also become increasingly important in attracting an ever larger public.

The Foundations with their works

With the Golinelli Foundation, contemporary art works have been selected, unique works relating to contemporary African artists, made from recycled and unconventional materials in which one can also read historical, political and social significance.

The Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna displays works from the Archangel bequest, with artists such as Bertelli, Morlotti and De Pisis and the Last Naturalists.

The Cardinal Giacomo Lercaro Foundation brings a selection of very diverse artists such as Giacomo Balla, Aldo Borgonzoni and Giacomo Manzù.

The Tito Balestra Foundation brings works that correspond to the tastes of the poet and epigrammist after whom the Foundation is named. Prominent among the artists in this section are Renato Guttuso and Mino Maccari.

Finally, the Dino Zoli Foundation's selection includes not only paintings, but also installations, photographs and sculptures, with particularly interesting names such as Achille Perilli, Enrico Baj and Giosetta Fioroni.
