Happy Birthday Milano Marittima
A very special birthday party to celebrate the city's 111th year since its foundation and Cervia City Orchestra's concert.
Milano Marittima's birthday is celebrated with a gala evening on Monday 14th August in the centre of Milano Marittima, in Rotonda 1° Maggio.
The birth date of the 'garden city' is officially considered to be 14th August 1912, the day on which the convention was signed between the Municipality of Cervia and the Società Anonima per lo Sviluppo della Spiaggia di Cervia 'Milano Marittima' (anonymous society for the development of the Cervia beach). Milano Marittima was the dream of a few pioneers from Milan and Lombardy, who wanted to create here, on the shores of the Adriatic, the ideal holiday town on the basis of the master plan drawn up by the Milanese Giuseppe Palanti (1881-1946), painter, advertising man, illustrator, set designer, collaborator with the Teatro alla Scala and teacher at the Brera Academy.
With that act, the municipality granted the Milanese Society a large stretch of pine forest north of the canal port (commonly known as 'la marena di frè') for the construction of a 'garden city' on the basis of a precise town-planning scheme that respected the environment and was based on Art Nouveau villas, according to the prevailing taste of the time.
Each year, the mayor presents an award to personalities who have brought prestige to the city.
