Blue Flag
On 14th May 2026 Cervia is awarded a new Blue Flag
The award, established in 1987, is in its 40th edition
31 Blue Flags for Cervia and its beaches
This year is the thirty-one Blue Flag for our town, which has won the prestigious award for the twenty-eight consecutive years (since 1999). The other three Blue Flags came to Cervia in 1991, 1996 and 1997.
This year there are 257 Italian municipalities for a total of 487 beaches; Emilia Romagna obtained 11 flags for the municipalities of: Cervia, Cesenatico, Comacchio, Bellaria-Igea Marina, Gatteo, Misano Adriatico, Ravenna, Rimini, Riccione, San Mauro Pascoli and Cattolica.
The Blue Flag 2026 once again rewards the city of Cervia, a location at the top of the national panorama, for its ability to combine environmental quality and development of the territory, for its commitment to safeguarding and protecting the environment and nature, and for raising the quality of services of tourist facilities.
Award criteria
The strict selection was based on data, directly collected by FEE Italia, about
- water quality
- coastal quality
- quality of services
- environmental management
- safety measures
- environmental information and education
In fact, among the judging criteria for the Blue Flag award, priority is given to: water quality and purification, waste disposal, environmental information and education, safety and emergency plans, quality of accommodation and beach facilities and services, qualification of fishing activities.
The Blue Flag award is a symbol for the commitment of a city that looks ahead and has made of respect for life and nature its own culture, always focusing on the preservation of the fragile balance between environment and tourism.
Since 2025, the assessment has also included a requirement to submit an Environmental Sustainability Plan, which sets out the city’s development policies over a three-year period.
