Banksy in Cervia

Banksy in Cervia

A new appointment with street art. Banksy's most iconic works on show in Cervia

After last year's success with the exhibition Made in New York. Keith Haring (subway drawings), Paolo Buggiani and the true origin of street art, and in 2023 Obey Make Art not war, the Torre Salt Warehouse are preparing to host a new appointment dedicated to street art in 2024

from Friday 1st March
to Sunday 2nd June 2024

Torre Salt Warehouse

Cervia - Bansky exhibition in Cervia, poster 2024

Perhaps the best-known British artist in the world, the forerunner of the creative visions of an entire generation, the most representative talent of international street art is the protagonist of the Banksy exhibition in Cervia. From 1st March to 2nd June, the public will be able to admire some of the most representative works of recent decades, known everywhere for their disruptive charge and their transversal, political and social messages, capable of interpreting the complex reality of our times with the rapid and intuitive traits of street art.

Curated by Roberto Mastroianni, promoted by the Municipality of Cervia and produced and organised by MetaMorfosi Eventi, the exhibition will offer the public a rich selection of silkscreens on display for three months in the spaces of the Magazzino del Sale - Torre di Cervia.

Works on display

Among the works are some true symbolic images of the British artist's production: among these is a very particular version of Love is in the Air (Flower Thrower), the now very famous "flower thrower" that reproduces a young man throwing a bouquet of flowers in a true classically inspired triptych, a symbol of an anti-militarist revolution that overturns the common sense of urban guerrilla warfare.

The flower-thrower, who first appeared in 2003 as an uncommissioned stencil in Jerusalem on the wall built to separate Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank area, is the protagonist of the work chosen as the symbol of the exhibition: a composition of three silkscreens made by Banksy in 2019, each of them displayed with its original frame. A work rarely encountered in exhibitions dedicated to the British artist.

In addition to Love is in the Air (Flower Thrower), some of the artist's most iconic works will be on display. Among these is Girl with Balloon, perhaps Banksy's most popular image, and indeed voted in a 2017 poll as the British people's favourite work, which Banksy first painted in 2002 as a stencil on a London wall beside a bridge in the Southbank area and which the artist "signed" with a short text: "There is always hope".

The one coming to Cervia is therefore an exhibition that will allow viewers to delve into the artistic imagination of an author who has been traversing the world cultural scene for more than twenty years now, and who has also chosen the current war scenarios as the stage for his artistic messages, once again demonstrating his ability to stand in the midst of the present.
