Around the world in 80 Kites
Exhibition and workshops dedicated to kites
A new appointment with the exhibition ‘Around the World in 80 Kites’, the poetic focus of Artevento's autumn initiative ‘ONE SKY ONE WORLD’, a spin-off of the famous International Kite Festival. This year, the initiative celebrates the 40th anniversary of the World Kite Flying Day for Peace, inviting the public to become the centrepiece of a large collective mobilisation focused on the theme of the kite, a symbol of freedom, peace, brotherhood and sustainability.
The exhibition ‘Around the World in 80 Kites’, held at the Magazzino del Sale Torre, opens on Friday 3 October and will remain open to the public free of charge until Sunday 12 October.
As usual, the 2025 edition will also feature creative workshops for adults and children.
The exhibition
The exhibition offers an opportunity for festival lovers to deepen their passion and for neophytes to understand the artistic and cultural value of an event that, since its first edition, has seen original creations and artefacts of millenary tradition from more than 80 countries around the world flying in the skies of Cervia. Celebrating the kite as an emblem of a harmonious relationship with the environment, the exhibition intends to convey the "spirit" of the art of the wind by continuing the path begun with the first episode of the event that marked the debut of ARTEVENTO's new exhibition project in October 2021
.
An historical journey represented by the sections into which the exhibition will be divided
The first section will be dedicated to donations and recent acquisitions from Japan – including some previously unseen items – that form part of the prestigious collection of the Kite Museum.
Alongside these, a space within the Magazzino del Sale will be reserved for the main attraction of this edition. Some emblematic examples from the two kite collections that promoted the idea of Europe in the second half of the 1980s through the creation of Japanese Edo-style kites painted by artists from various European countries will be exhibited exclusively and for the first time in Italy: The Hague Air Gallery and European Air Gallery, which will then be exhibited in their entirety at the 46th edition of ARTEVENTO.
Also as part of the exhibition “Around the World in 80 Kites”, ARTEVENTO is dedicating a special section to the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, in collaboration with ASCIG (Italian-Japanese Cultural Exchange Association), chaired by Prof. Marco del Bene, and as part of the Japanese October Festival.
In addition to exhibiting for the first time the kite dedicated to Hiroshima by Dutch artist Albert Trinks, ARTEVENTO celebrates the rejection of war and the call for disarmament inherent in the very meaning of One Sky One World Day, promoting the tradition of “a thousand origami cranes” and honouring the memory of Sasaki Sadako, an emblematic figure of peace in Japan, who survived the Hiroshima disaster but died at the age of 12 from radiation poisoning.

How the Kite Museum was founded
Established in 2020 as a result of the reflection imposed by the pandemic on the responsibility of cultural operators to offer ever greater stimuli to an empathetic and resilient society, the museum represents the achievement of the ARTEVENTO experience. The collection has grown since 1981 on the sidelines of the International Kite Festival of the City of Cervia. Comprising an extraordinary heritage of goods and knowledge, the archive makes available a cultural capital of extraordinary value, promoting the kite as a symbol of sustainable creativity and an opportunity for intercultural dialogue capable of enriching the languages of inclusion and peace.
