San Paterniano's day
The ancient Feast of Cervia's Patron Saint, San Paterniano, returns, an opportunity to rediscover the various souls that make up the Cervia community and rediscover traditions that risk being lost
The patron saint (a legal term used to indicate the defence lawyer) is the saint who defends in the final judgement, and not only: he intervenes to defend and protect; in sacred images, patron saints hold on their hands, or have at their feet, the city they protect and are considered its spiritual founders. A city sees in the patron saint the model to be imitated, the protector to be invoked against adversities, so that he may assert his intercession with God, and the defender against spiritual and even material dangers.
Thus, over the centuries, the Church has continued to propose and commemorate the patron's feast day as not only a religious moment but also a civil one; this latter aspect has also flowed into the Municipality's Statute, which, in Art. 3 c. 7, reminds all the people of Cervia of the patron saint of the city.
