The Giro d'Italia returns to Cervia

Sunday, 17 May 2026

The Giro d'Italia 2026, the road cycling competition par excellence and one of the most prestigious in the world, returns for its 109th edition, with Cervia hosting the start of the 9th stage.

A route entirely in Romagna brings the pink caravan back to the city after the 2020 edition. From the sea and pine forests of Cervia to Corno alle Scale, the highest peak in the Bolognese Apennines, this is the route of the ninth stage of the Giro, the highly anticipated sporting event that sees Emilia-Romagna among the leading regions.

The Emilia-Romagna stage, the ninth (in the first week), will start from Cervia (Ra) on Sunday 17 May and end at Corno alle Scale (Bo), covering a total of 184 km and 2,400 metres of elevation gain.

The finish line is uphill, at an altitude of 1,471 metres, and also marks a return to Corno, 22 years after Gilberto Simoni's stage victory in 2004.
