10 things to do in Cervia in summer

Here is a list of ideas for your summer stay in Cervia

Summer is finally here and it's time to take a break!

Do you want to enjoy moments of pure relaxation with family or friends? Would you like to have an aperitif or dinner on the beach at sunset?

Everything is possible in Cervia!

Take your cue, be inspired and come and live your experience in the city of salt, among colours and emotions.

1. Sunrise on the beach

Cervia, sunrise facing the sea - Ph. Dany Fontana

The sound of the waves, the sea air and the shells on the shore, all in the beautiful setting of sunrise colors.

It is the time for a memorable snapshot, for a romantic walk, to refill our oxygen while waiting for the sun to rise and give us a day of complete relaxation. Sunrise is also the occasion for the evocative appointments of concerts by the sea, for a show between music and nature.

Cervia is 30th times a Blue Flag. A team of professionals for a safe and serene vacation along the 9 km of well-equipped and well-organized beaches.

In warmer weather there is nothing better than starting the day with a walk along the shore at low tide and a breakfast overlooking the sea. This is Cervia!

2. Full immersion of sport on the beach and in nature

Cervia beach sport - Ph. Mario Zanetti

For the more competitive, almost all bathing establishments have areas of the beach dedicated to beach volleyball and beach tennis with courts spread over 9 kilometres of coastline.
The summer energy continues with other new beach sports, such as beach soccer or foot volleyball. For traditionalists, on the other hand, table tennis and the legendary game of bowls are timeless.
Cervia also offers a wide range of opportunities if you love water sports: from the classics such as sailing, canoeing and paddle boarding, to new trends in boarding, such as SUP, surfing and its acrobatic derivatives: windsurfing, kitesurfing, wakeboarding ... and many others.

The green pine forests are a real outdoor gym if you love jogging, running or Nordic walking.

For horse lovers, on the other hand, there is the Le Siepi Equestrian Centre, which in 2024 crossed the 50-year milestone with its national and international competitions.

Challenge your friends on the 100 hectares of the Milano Marittima golf course with its 27 holes or, if you love wheels, choose from the various bike trails from the sea to the hills.

3. Experience in the pine forest

If you want to cool off in the shade of the pine trees, the centuries-old pine forest of Cervia and Milano Marittima and the coastal pine forest of Pinarella and Tagliata offer various routes and paths suitable for everyone.
Walking, jogging, cycling or reading a book in a natural environment is ideal to find some coolness even on hot days.

The Cervia Natural Park is an oasis 32 hectares of pine forest, an unspoilt corner of paradise of absolute relaxation and tranquillity, in close contact with nature and animals, especially on the Vecchia Fattoria trail.

Walking, running, cycling or reading a book among majestic trees is ideal for living in harmony with the environment and rediscovering profound wellbeing.

4. The Cervia Salt Pan, southern station of the Po Delta Park

The Salina is the place where the entire history of the city originated, with the ancient Ficocle, and it is here that sweet salt is still harvested today: the white gold of Cervia. Take part in salt extraction and transport activities, experience the thrill of becoming a salt farmer for a day!
The Salt Pan is a protected oasis home to flamingos, avocets and stilt birds, and is part of the Po Delta Park nature reserve.

The Camillone Saltworks is an integral part of the Salt Museum, the MuSa, which protects and enhances the objects, images and documents of the salt civilisation. It also houses an archaeological section and the mosaic carpets from the Church of San Martino prope litus maris, which were found in an area adjacent to the salt pans.

The Visitor Centre organises many activities, for both adults and children, in perfect harmony with nature: birdwatching, guided tours on foot or by bike, excursions by electric boat or canoe and many others.

5. The House of Butterflies

In the evocative setting of the pine forest of Cervia and Milano Marittima, the House of Butterflies is a greenhouse housing hundreds of spectacularly coloured butterflies from the tropical regions of Africa, Asia, America and Australia.
Along the paths it is possible to admire them up close, perched on flowers or on the large leaves of typical tropical shrubs.
An enchanting spectacle of nature that you can't miss!

6. Boat trips or hill trips?

Cervia, boat trips - Ph. Simonetta Ricci

If you want to spend a fun day in close contact with the sea or if you want to discover the Riviera Romagnola from a different perspective, book your boat trip!

Cervia offers various itineraries such as the excursion to the methane platforms, the search for dolphins swimming in packs and the daily "mini-cruise" from Romagna to Marche.
Especially spectacular is the night-time trip to admire the fireworks, organised for St. Lawrence's Night, directly from the sea.

And for an alternative afternoon, a stone's throw from Cervia you can head into the green hills to discover a hinterland of villages, castles and jewels of art and culture. If you love art, a stop in Ravenna, the capital of Byzantine mosaics, with its Unesco heritage, is a must.

We invite you to browse through the proposals for guided tours, itineraries and routes and book directly or contact the Cervia IAT Office for any information and to find out more.

7. Aperitif at sunset

Cervia, sunset aperitifs - Ph. Gruppo Fotografico Cervese

The Riviera Romagnola is also famous for its timeless aperitifs on the beach. The perfect time to enjoy the sea with the reflections of the sunset.
A cocktail prepared at the moment, two bubbles and some appetizers to delight the palate, perhaps with some typical products. In the centre of Cervia, along its boulevards and the seaside village, in Pinarella and Tagliata, in Milano Marittima, the Garden City that this year celebrates 113th years since its birth, the aperitif is the best way to end a day at the sea.

With an authentic flavour is the aperitif with the fishermen, at the end of a walk in the borgo marina, to discover anecdotes and curiosities directly from the voice of the fishermen.

8. Walks through art and greenery

Cervia, Milano Marittima villas

Did you know that in Cervia there is the Cervia Salt and Sea Ecomuseum?
We are keen to safeguard the material and intangible heritage also made of stories, tales, people.
The heritage walks are ideal for getting to know Cervia up close, through the stories of salt workers and fishermen, who become expert guides for the occasion.

The walks continue with the route among the Art Nouveau villas in Milano Marittima or in the centuries-old Cervia-Milano Marittima pine forest with environmental guides.

The Vialetto degli Artisti (Artists' Path) along the Milano Marittima canal at the First Crossing is the perfect combination of art, creativity and nature.

And speaking of greenery and flowers, the 54th edition of Cervia Città Giardino (Cervia Garden City), Europe's largest open-air floral art exhibition, is coming to Cervia.

9. Evening stroll through the town centre markets

Cervia, evening markets - Ph. Francesco Benazzi

Every week in summer, the town centres come alive with evening markets for all tastes: crafts, gastronomy, clothes...
Take the opportunity to do your shopping, stroll through the streets of the town centres and why not, enjoy an ice cream with friends.
Discover the markets in Cervia, Milano Marittima, Pinarella and Tagliata.

10. Events

Cervia, the night of San Lorenzo - Ph. Gruppo Fotografico Cervese

There are many events not to be missed during the season: top evenings between concerts with great music stars, encounters with culture, pyrotechnic shows by moonlight or simply a pleasant evening to enjoy the flavours of our local cuisine, accompanied by background music playing in the streets of the city.

And then, there's the sea, the sun, the summer!
