The Cathedral is in Cervia's main square just opposite the Town Hall

The construction of the church began on the order of Bishop Gian Francesco Riccamonti in late June 1699 and was finished in June 1702.
The church presents an extremely simple, linear façade; it was not possible to complete it because of the sudden lack of fund, which did not allow the façade to be adorned with marble, as the original plan had foreseen.
The inner part of the building consists of a Latin-cross plan, very simple as well, with an interesting altar of baroque influence coming from the deconsecrated San Domenico's Church in Forlì. The altar is surmounted by an altar-piece of the Assumption of the Lady, to whom the church is devoted, between the Saints Nicola and Bartolomeo.
Inside the curch there is a painting of remarkable artistic value, depicting Saint Joseph with the Holy Child, by an unknown painter clearly coming from Guercino's school.
The panel with the Madonna of the Snow is as important and comes from the original, historical town of Cervia Vecchia. It was ascribed to the painter Barbara Longhi, who worked in Ravenna in mid-1500.
The Cathedral is adorned by other less interesting paintings of the 18th century and contains San Paterniano's relics, the Saint protector of the town, whose celebration is every November.
